The Khopra Hill Trek route falls within the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project). So, trekkers must get the ACAP permit and TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) permit. The trekking is suitable for all kinds of trekkers (both beginners and seasoned hikers) but they need to have sound physical fitness and stamina level. There are many uphill and downhill ascents/descents. The average walking hours on this trek is about 6-7 hours. Therefore, do some cardio-vascular exercises 15 days before the trekking.

The maximum altitude on this trek is 4600 m. Therefore, there is a high risk of altitude sickness. Don’t forget to get travel insurance that covers all emergencies, accidents, and helicopter rescue.

Where is the Trailhead of Khopra Hill Trekking?

There are many trailheads for the Khopra Hill Trek. You can start the trekking from Nayapul, Tatopani, Tikhedhunga, and Ghandruk. The most popular and easy way to do the trek is from Ghandruk. Trekkers reach the Ghandruk on jeep via Pokhara from Kathmandu.

Khopra Hill Trek Itinerary

There are many confusing articles and information about the Khopra Hill Trek Itinerary. The trail is relatively new and untouched. The trekking starts from Ghandruk. This village is the model cultural village of Nepal. You can reach the village either by bus or jeep from Pokhara. The first resting camp is in Tadapani. Traversing through green lush forests, trekkers can enjoy the serene forest environment throughout the trip. Trekkers finally reach the Khopra Ridge by spending overnight at Dobato.

Once you are at Khopra Hill, you will feel as if you are in a place above the clouds. The close-up view of the mountains provides a Himalayan wilderness feeling. To reach the place above 4500 m altitude, trekkers do the hike to Khayer Lake. It is one of the major highlights of the trekking. Get the outstanding mirror image of mountains on the quaint water lake. There are no lodging facilities in the Khayer Lake area. Therefore, trekkers return back to Khopra.

You can return from Khopra to Pokhara from two different routes. One is from Banthanti via Ghorepani and another is from Tatopani via Swanta. The best recommendation is the route of Swanta. After the entire arduous walking trip, trekkers can rest and relax in the natural hot water springs at Tatopani.

Khopra Hill Trek Difficulty

The trek difficulty is fairly moderate on this trip. You must be physically fit. There are long steep ascents and descents. The trail is narrow and vertical in some sections. The maximum altitude is in the altitude sickness zone. Therefore, proper planning and a reliable trekking companion are highly necessary. Don’t underestimate this trekking route even if it is suitable for both seasoned hikers and beginners.

Yes, you can do Khopra Hill Trek and Poon Hill Trek in one single trip. After exploring Khopra Ridge, trekkers hike to Ghorepani. This hill station town is the major town from where trekkers hike to Poon Hill. Trekkers can extend the trek to either Mohare Danda or Mulde View Point.
